Blessing of the Animals

Blessing of the Animals

Saturday, October 5 at 12:00pm

Murphy Hall Traffic Circle at Holy Trinity

All are invited to bring their pets to Holy Trinity on Saturday, October 5 to be blessed in honor of St. Francis’ feast day (October 4) because of his love for animals
as expressed in his Canticle of Creatures.

Who is St. Francis of Assisi?

St. Francis of Assisi was born in the 12th century, lived in Italy, and founded the men’s Order of Friars Minor, the women’s Order of St. Clare, and the Third Order of Saint Francis for men and women not able to live the lives of itinerant preachers. Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in history. He is remembered for his generosity to the poor, his willingness to minister to the lepers, and for his love for animals and nature. He is the Catholic Church’s patron saint of animals and the environment.

Donations Collected for Pets in Need

The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi provides a Christian Service opportunity for our children to help families in our community with pets in need. All donations collected at our event will be distributed to local families through the Pet Food Pantry of Webster. Some items that are much needed include: Canned Wet Food for cats or dogs; Unopened Bags of Dry Food for cats or dogs (easily carried small or medium bags only); New or Gently Used Toys for cats or dogs; other items such as blankets or dog crates. We will collect all items at our Blessing of the Animals and deliver them on behalf of our Holy Trinity parish family to the Pet Food Pantry!
